Filled to order One Planet sleeping bags are hand-filled to order in our Melbourne factory, dramatically reducing the time each bag spends compressed in its stuff sack. (In contrast, our competitors’ bags are usually stored tightly squashed whilst in transit from Asia, then for who knows how long on the shelf.) We use complex filling charts to ensure the down is put in the areas where it is most needed. Independent down testing At One Planet we believe it is important to ensure the down we use meets or exceeds our high requirements. We have it independently tested for loft, down percentage, species and cleanliness by the IDFL (International Down and Feather Laboratory) prior to purchase. It’s quite a process: before it’s shipped, an IDFL representative inspects the down at the plant, core samples are taken and every bale is security tagged. The samples are then sent to the IDFL in the USA for testing. Only after we receive confirmation the down meets our exacting standards do we authorise shipment. Please note: Every One Planet down bag states the loft and quality of down used on the quality control label inside the foot of the bag. Our down may contain traces of down from species other than that noted on the tag. As down is a natural fibre, the quality may vary slightly from one shipment to the next. Minor adjustments in the weight of the sleeping bag may occur. Independent temperature rating (European standard 13537) One Planet bags are temperature rated in accordance with EN 13537, the official European standard for the rating of sleeping bags. Although the testing is expensive, it removes a lot of the guess work so common with claims relating to sleeping bag warmth. The results are scientific, standardised and reliable, and the warmth of bags tested in this method can be directly and accurately compared. The testing involves placing a heated, lifelike mannequin inside a sleeping bag in a climate-controlled room and monitoring the results to determine the bag’s comfort, limit of comfort and extreme temperature ratings. We use Kansas State University and their mannequin Simon for our testing. Due to our vast range, we test a wide cross-section of our bags, producing results that are scientific, standardised and reliable. We use this data to provide accurate estimates for the remaining models. It should be noted that testing is performed on new bags containing clean down, and the performance of the bag may decrease over time. Please refer to care and use instructions for information on how to best maintain your bag. (Click here for more information about EN 13537 and the warmth of our bags.) Servicing your sleeping bag If you take care of your One Planet down sleeping bag it will reward you with years of comfort and performance – our bags can happily last for decades. Which is why our service doesn’t stop when you buy the bag: we want to help you make the most of it! Washing a sleeping bag can be a daunting undertaking – send it our way and we’ll take care of it. Your precious bag has been chewed, torn, broken or otherwise damaged? Send it back to us.
