All Semi-Rectangular and Rectangular sleeping bags use One Planet's V-baffle system to minimise fill material shift. This system is vastly superior to the conventional across baffle system.
Several years ago, Dr. Ken Green of Beridale NSW performed an interesting experiment. To quantify the difference between the V-baffle and the conventional across baffle system, two sleeping bags were made, identical in terms of fill and fabric. The only difference; one bag featured One Planet's V-baffle system, the other a conventional across baffle system.
Over the course of two evenings, Dr. Green took 800 paired temperature records, comparing the outside ambient temperature with the temperature inside the bag. Around midnight, both bags kept the user 31 to 35 degrees warmer than the outside temperature. As the night wore on and the outside temperature fell, the conventional baffle bag maintained the temperature differential between the inside and outside of the bag in the 31 to 35 degree range. However, as the -5.8 degree pre-dawn minimum approached, the V-baffle bag kept the user up to 39.5 degrees warmer than the ambient temperature.
In other words, as the night progressed, the V-baffle system kept the fill material where it was needed and the user up to 4.5 degrees warmer |
