Construction

Binding
Many of our packs are bound with canvas binding. This binding offers superior weather proofing.

BindingTwin needles lay down a total of fourteen stitches per inch giving unsurpassed strength.

Sewing
The stitching which holds it all together is a high strength, water resistant polycotton thread. High stress areas (such as where webbing goes into a seam) are stitched over forward, backward then forward again.

One Planet packs use over 30 bar tacks to reinforce the Exact Fit harness. A bar tack is a stitch done on a special machine that provides massive strength.

Belt and paddingHip Belt and Lumbar Pad
The preferred load carrying point of the body is the hips, not the spine.

The hip belts on the One Planet Exact Fit and Exact Fit Plus harness are constructed from a composite of stiff Polypropylene sheet , High Density closed cell foam (for even load distribution) and cushioned by contoured open cell foam. This is covered by a hard wearing and breathable contact fabric which produces a wrinkle-free surface.

The hip belt on the Mini Plus harness is similarly constructed but without the polypropylene sheet insert. The lumbar pads are constructed from very dense open cell foam for maximum comfort.

Shoulder Straps
One Planet shoulder straps are constructed using a complex process of pre-stretched lamination of multiple foams and contact fabrics. This composite sandwich is anatomically shaped and finished with wrinkle-free edges.

Weight in the upper section of the pack is stabilised and balanced by the shoulder straps when correctly positioned. The Exact Fit harness system enables the user to precisely adjust the length from the hips to the shoulders to ensure correct shoulder strap positioning. The Exact Fit harness system allows adjustment to be easily carried out whilst the pack is on your back. This is far simpler than other packs which need to be adjusted by a fiddly process on the ground.
